Deloitte, the business advisory firm, has retained the Industry sailing challenge trophy after shrugging off competition from crews from Npower, Kroll, Dupont and BP.
On the 10th and 11th May Deloitte entered 5 boats in the Challenge Trophy, which took place in Port Solent, Hampshire. The crews represented the breadth of Deloitte service lines, regions and departments.
The gruelling challenge involved sailing twice around the Isle of Wight, in a 24 hour marathon requiring expert sailing skills, team work, combating fatigue and the determination and drive to battle winds and tides to complete the course.
The winning boat was skippered by Ben Dillistone, and crew included Ben Field, Duncan Milne, Katharine Morton, Anna Ludgate and Neil Jones. Deloitte not only achieved 1st place, but a total of 4 places in the top 10. The other Deloitte crews were skippered by James Yearsley, Alan Bentall, Steve Shergold and Peter Mills. This success was achieved against the high quality of 30 other competing crews.
Ben Dillistone, Deloitte’s winning skipper, said: "With winds forecast up to gale force it was a very tough race. It was a great team effort and the crew performed fantastically. I think our ability to work together and deal with conditions was the most important factor in our success."
