Ross Howard, partner in Deloitte's Energy, Infrastructure & Utilities group, has been appointed as an Expert Adviser to the House of Lords Select Committee leading an inquiry into the European Commission's Green Paper on Energy Policy. The Lords Sub-Committee conducting the inquiry, chaired by Lord Woolmer of Leeds, will take evidence from energy producers and intensive users, the Government and the energy Regulator, and is due to report its findings before the summer recess.
The Green Paper "A European Strategy for Sustainable, Competitive and Secure Energy" sets out the European Commission’s views on the key considerations in developing a new, common energy strategy for Europe. The Paper has been prepared in response to calls from European Heads of State and Government for a common energy strategy with an integrated approach, reflecting concerns around recent energy market and other related global developments. The Paper states that these issues require a common European response as apposed to developing an approach based solely on 25 individual, Member State energy policies.
