Deloitte has today announced a number of senior appointments to its rapidly expanding specialist UK insurance team.
Andy Todd will be joining as a partner, from Aviva, where he was director of tax for Aviva plc’s life business. Andy brings over 11 years experience in taxation issues affecting the financial services sector. Prior to joining Aviva in 2001, Andy spent over seven years at Arthur Andersen where, as a senior tax manager, he specialised in providing advice to major blue chip life and general insurance companies. Andy, aged 38, will join Deloitte in the autumn and work out of both its London and Leeds offices, reflecting the wide geographical spread of the life insurance industry in the UK. He is a member of both the ABI Life Tax Panel and the ABI Tax Committee.
Commenting, Mark FitzPatrick, head of the insurance industry group at Deloitte said: “Our UK insurance practice delivers world class integrated professional advice and the promotion of five new partners and the recruitment of Andy Todd and Rob Green to the team gives us the strength to help our clients adapt and react to industry issues such as the possible implications of Solvency II and pension reform.”
Five other staff have been promoted to partner. These include:
Rick Lester – a specialist in risk management in the insurance sector. Rick is leading the firm’s response to Solvency II and working with companies in both the life and general insurance sectors to help them meet the new requirements. He has 20 years experience in the financial sector combining 10 years in the insurance industry with 10 years in professional services.
Stephen Keane – is an actuary specialising in the life insurance sector. Stephen has helped a number of our multi-national clients develop technology based solutions to address their most complex actuarial issues. These issues include responding to new financial reporting standards such as Realistic Balance Sheet reporting and Individual Capital Assessment in the UK and more widely European Embedded Value
Richard Hurley – specialises in advising both life and general insurance companies on major cost reduction opportunities and IT transformation.
Gurpreet Johal – an actuary who specialises in general insurance market with a particular focus on the Lloyd’s/London Market and the global reinsurance market, especially Bermuda. He advises insurers on reserving, capital, aggregate control and strategic projects including mergers and acquisitions.
Paul Stephenson – a specialist in insurance auditing and accounting, with particular expertise in life insurance accounting and regulation. Paul has over 15 years experience in the financial sector and has focused for the last 10 years on providing audit and advisory services to the insurance and investment management sectors.
Deloitte have also recruited Rob Green from the FSA (Financial Services Authority), where he has been chief actuary. Rob joins Deloitte as a director from mid-July. He will be advising clients on capital and risk management.
Deloitte, which works with 18 of the top 20 life insurance companies and 17 of the top 20 general insurance companies in the UK, is growing its insurance practice to reflect the major challenges and opportunities, from pensions to bulk annuities, facing the sector.
Five insurance specialists have also been promoted to director and principal.
