Deloitte, the business advisory firm, is pleased to announce that Deirdre Power, Partner, has been appointed Chairperson of the Irish Funds Industry Association (IFIA).
Deirdre is a Tax Partner in Deloitte. Her experience is in the financial services industry, where she has spent more than ten years advising clients in the areas of investment management and funds, leasing, banking, securitisation and structured finance.
Commenting on her appointment as Chairperson, Deirdre said: “I am looking forward to working with the IFIA Chief Executive, Gary Palmer, the IFIA team and the funds community to ensure that Ireland continues to be best in class in the international funds market place. The Irish funds industry currently employs over 8,000 people throughout Ireland, who look after EUR1 trillion of assets. The growth in the industry has been phenomenal over the last few years and funds have been the real success story in the history of Irish financial services.
The challenge for the year ahead will be to grow the industry even further and position Ireland to take advantage of all the changes that are occurring in Europe, particularly with the advent of new EU Directives and policies. With our 12.5 per cent tax rate, our well respected regulatory regime and our excellent fund service providers, I am confident that Ireland and the IFIA will go from strength to strength.”
Speaking today at the IFIA/ICSA Annual Global Funds Conference, Gary Palmer, Chief Executive, IFIA, said: “Deirdre’s experience will be invaluable as we look to continue the success of the funds industry in Ireland over the coming year. As a member of various IFIA committees for numerous years she is very familiar with the goals the industry has set for itself – and also the challenges facing it. We look forward to working with her in playing an integral role in ensuring the future success of the Irish funds industry.”
Deirdre holds a number of roles within the financial services industry. She was appointed to the Taoiseach’s Pan European Pensions taskforce and more recently she was appointed to the Expert Group on the taxation of income from savings established by the EU Commission.
The IFIA/NICSA Annual Global Funds Conference takes place from 5-7 June at Carton House, Maynooth, Co Kildare.
