Hong Kong, December 9, 2004 — The 500 fastest-growing technology companies in Asia Pacific were recognised in the 2004 Deloitte Technology Fast 500 Asia Pacific 2004 program today. From across the Asia Pacific region, the winners have managed to achieve an impressive three-year revenue growth average of 400 percent.
Companies from Australia, China, Malaysia and Taiwan representing the communications, Internet and semi-conductor, electronics and components industry sectors occupy the top five positions. They achieved an average 15,783 percent revenue growth, a staggering increase from last year’s 8,441 percent, and this continues the upward momentum over the three years of the program.
Mr. Ian Thatcher, Deloitte’s Asia Pacific Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT) lead partner and partner in charge of the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 Asia Pacific program said: "Companies from Korea and China together make up 40 percent of the rankings. The software industry continues to be the strongest sector for fostering fast growing technology businesses. Asia Pacific continues to be a world leader in semi-conductor, components and electronics, and these companies have doubled their representation compared to last year.
"It also reflects that Asia Pacific technology leaders are back on track for success and hungry to attract talent and raise capital to fund future growth. There are grounds for real confidence going forward into 2005. The ghosts of the Dotcom era appear to have finally been laid to rest."
The overall winner this year is Bill Express Limited, which operates one of Australia’s major electronic networks for product distribution, sales and payment. It achieved an incredible 56,303 percent revenue growth over a three year period.
Taiwan's Dotcom Technology Co., Ltd, came second with three-year revenue growth of 7,035 percent. The company started their business in 2000 and now provides tailor-made, integrated Internet services for enterprises.
For the first time a Malaysian semi-conductor design company made it to the top rankings. Malaysia Microelectronic Solutions Sdn. Bhd. raised its revenues by 6,008 percent over the last three years to accomplish a very credible third place. Fiberxon Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., designer and manufacturer of optical transceivers in China, achieved a three year revenue growth of 5,696 percent to reach fourth place overall. Powertech Industrial Co. Ltd. from Taiwan, a leading manufacturer and design company for power-related equipment and accessories, was placed fifth with a three year revenue increase of 3,872 percent.
Igal Brightman, global managing partner of Deloitte’s TMT industry group said: "We announced our 2004 Deloitte Technology Fast 500 EMEA ranking last week. The average growth rate was 1,243 percent over the last five years. Like in Asia Pacific, we continue to see a clear dominance of the software segment, accounting for 40 percent of the EMEA ranking. We also see a definite growth in revenues of Life Sciences and Biotechnology companies."
In Asia Pacific, there are 90 companies from China (including Hong Kong), representing 18 percent of the Technology Fast 500 Asia Pacific 2004 list. Three of the top 10 winners are from this area, namely WuXi PharmaTech Co., Ltd., and NetEase.com.Inc., in addition to Fiberxon Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd.
Software companies continue to be the leading contributor in this year’s Asia Pacific program, comprising 32 percent of the index. 60 percent of the Software companies are based in China, India and Japan.
Semi-conductor, components and electronics companies have increased from 14 percent in the prior year to 27 percent in 2004. Two-thirds (67 percent) of these companies come from Korea and Taiwan. The increase demonstrates that the segment continues its recovery this year. It also underlines the global dominance electronic equipment manufacturers have in Asia Pacific.
"Looking forward, emerging technologies such as voice over IP, intelligent transport systems, remote frequency ID tags, wireless LAN, global IT outsourcing and the development and penetration of open source, should provide an exciting year ahead. Asia Pacific is poised to lead the way," said Brightman.
The 2004 Deloitte Technology Fast 500 Asia Pacific program is a ranking of the leading technology companies across the region based on percentage revenue growth over the last three years. Along with its counterparts in North America and EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa), it is well respected and now established as one of the most objective awards of its type globally in the TMT industry.
