Singapore, June 20, 2006—William G. Parrett, CEO Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, announced today the establishment of Deloitte ASEAN. This development is part of the organization's aggressive plans to double Deloitte's strength in Asia within the next five years.

Deloitte member firms in six countries—Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Guam—make up Deloitte ASEAN, which will comprise more than 150 partners and about 3,500 staff in more than 15 office locations.

In announcing Deloitte ASEAN at a client reception in Singapore, Mr. Parrett said, "Asia Pacific is the No. 1 strategic market for Deloitte, and Deloitte ASEAN not only is the first of its kind for the region but comes on top of other significant investments in Asia Pacific, including $150 million in China and $50 million in India."

Mr. Parrett continued, "It is the Deloitte vision to be the standard of excellence, and the establishment of Deloitte ASEAN enables the member firms to leverage their combined size, scale and expertise to help achieve this in this region.  As we all know, the whole is worth more than the sum of its parts," he said.

Mr. Manoj Singh, CEO Deloitte Asia Pacific, who was instrumental in the reorganization, added, "Deloitte ASEAN will be the second-largest practice in Asia Pacific in terms of headcount and in the top 20 of the Deloitte organization worldwide. Given the combined strengths of the region and the synergies offered through this combination, I expect Deloitte ASEAN to grow much faster than the market over the next five years."

In addition he noted, "Over the past three years we have focused on building centers of excellence in Asia based in Singapore, including financial services, manufacturing, high-tech, telecommunications, risk management and M&A advisory services. Deloitte ASEAN will maintain these centers and will enable greater flexibility in delivering expertise and in responding more effectively to the growing needs of regional and global clients. In many respects, Deloitte ASEAN simply mirrors the structures of our multinational clients."

Mr. Parrett also announced that Mr. Chaly Mah will be the inaugural CEO of Deloitte ASEAN. Mr. Mah is CEO of Deloitte Singapore and will take on this additional role.

Mr. Mah said, "I am honored to be the first CEO of Deloitte ASEAN. This new structure will definitely help us achieve the critical size needed to enhance client service. It is about our people 'raising the bar' for quality and service delivery—to go beyond our clients' expectations and set the standard for delivering measurable value.

"In addition, our people will benefit from the professional development and client engagement opportunities that come with a bigger and more vibrant firm."

The services of Deloitte ASEAN will be provided by the existing legal entities in each of the Deloitte member firms of Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines and Guam.

Mr. Parrett is in Singapore to participate in the Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu 2006 Annual World Meeting.
