New York, June 9, 2006—Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu member firms are starting their global fiscal year with the celebration of IMPACT Day—a day Deloitte member firms dedicate to proactively supporting the development of the communities in which they work and their people live.
"IMPACT Day is just one example of how Deloitte member firms are positively contributing to society in ways that one might expect from a global organization," said William G. Parrett, CEO of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. "Through year-round community involvement programs, which include millions of hours and the thousands of people from Deloitte member firms worldwide, we can make a difference in many surrounding communities. Deloitte is committed to having a positive impact not only on clients but also on Deloitte professionals and society at large."
This year, approximately 35 countries are expected to engage in various community events such as cleaning public facilities, hosting fundraisers and education and learning programs. In 2005, more than 20 percent of the 120,000 Deloitte people, from more than 30 countries, participated in IMPACT Day activities. Some examples of this year's IMPACT Day events, both completed and yet to happen include:
-
In Malta, Deloitte provided assistance at a local home for orphaned children by painting the study room, setting up an IT infrastructure, and providing IT support and tuition to facilitate education.
-
In Bermuda, Deloitte volunteered for the Health & Activity Village (HAV), which is a key part of the World Cricket Classic event. The HAV is organized by the Get Fit Foundation promoting physical activity as a means of fighting obesity.
-
In the United States, multiple activities will take place, including, teaching Junior Achievement, park cleanups, and toy drives, just to name a few.
-
In Singapore, Deloitte is working alongside the Nature Society participating in a wetland cleanup.
IMPACT Day has been a part of Deloitte since 2000 and is just one of the many ongoing community involvement activities member firms undertake throughout the year. Member firms utilize the skills of Deloitte professionals, and as such, many firms are concentrating their efforts around education, employability and entrepreneurship.
Continuing in its efforts "to be the standard of excellence" (the new Deloitte vision) for the decade 2010, Deloitte recognizes that "giving back to the community is a win win," said Dr. Wolfgang Grewe, Deloitte Corporate Social Responsibility Leader and CEO of Deloitte Germany. "These activities support communities, and are also an investment in the people of Deloitte member firms. Community involvement assists Deloitte professionals in enhancing their team building and leadership skills, in addition to developing talent—a significant component of our new vision and strategy." The new vision aims to position Deloitte as the first choice of the world’s most coveted talent and sought-after clients.
