Keeping GTA alumni informed and connected
Toronto alumni newsletter, 12 pages Networking is key to professional success
A message from Paul Gibbons, Chair, GTA Alumni Committee

I enjoyed catching up with more than 400 of you at our most recent GTA Alumni Networking Reception on May 25, held at the Sheraton Centre Hotel. Pictures of the reception can be viewed at our online photo gallery.

In the last issue of the Local Link, I touched on one reason why networking is so important to business professionals these days. At a time when change is the new normal, we all need to go out of our way when we have the opportunity to meet experts who are cutting edge in their areas of specialty. Deloitte's alumni network — and that includes the thousands of GTA alumni who receive this publication — is a community of such experts.

Networking is also one of the best ways to give and receive referrals. As we point out later in this issue of Local Link, all of us are facing a war for talent. Networking can help us win this war — together. We are happy to refer you to the best possible people and services at Deloitte — and we'd like to encourage you to refer talented professionals to us. In fact, Deloitte recently sent out a postcard encouraging you to enter our GTA Alumni Referral Contest to win a trip for two anywhere in the world. More contests like this will follow. It's all part of what we can do for each other.

Join the Deloitte Alumni Directory, a database of nearly 12,000 Canadian alumni members.

In our third issue of the year, we bring you up to date on the firm's activities, clients and people in the GTA. In his message to alumni, Chief Executive Alan MacGibbon announces the development of the Canadian firm's Code of Conduct — reflecting Deloitte's Canadian culture, laws, and regulations and incorporating the Ethical Principles and the Shared Values common to all member firms within Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. GTA Group Managing Partner Yezdi Pavri describes the success of the Canadian firm's commitment to its community: Impact Day. Coast-to-coast 4,400 of our people volunteered approximately 30,000 hours of firm-paid time away from the office, on 214 locally sponsored and organized community improvement projects in 63 cities. Plus, we offer a wealth of information, including:

  • A selection of national news and recent client engagements
  • An update on some of the recent comprehensive solutions we offer our clients
  • A sampling of new GTA partner and firm director appointments
  • Recent recognitions that Deloitte has received
  • Highlights of business trends and issues of interest to GTA alumni, and
  • "Life at Deloitte" and alumni "Missing in action
