Alan MacGibbon
Managing Partner and Chief Executive

Alan MacGibbonAlan MacGibbon is the Managing Partner and Chief Executive of Deloitte in Canada. Originally from Newfoundland, Alan has held a number of key national positions in Deloitte and has worked in our offices in Saint John, Halifax and Toronto. He joined a predecessor firm, Touche Ross, in 1978 after graduating from the University of New Brunswick.

By the time Alan received his CA from the New Brunswick Institute in 1981, he had extensive auditing experience with companies in oil refining, shipbuilding, transportation and manufacturing. In 1984, Alan transferred to the Halifax office, serving primarily owner-managed and entrepreneurial clients. He became an audit partner in 1989, one year before the Touche Ross/Deloitte Haskins & Sells merger. In 1992 he assumed the leadership of the consulting practice in Atlantic Canada. In 1996, Alan led the creation of the National Management Solutions business for Canada.

In 2000, he became Group Managing Partner of the Growth and Markets group, allowing him to bring greater focus and clarity to the Canadian marketplace initiatives and the firm’s growth strategy. He was appointed Group Managing Partner for the greater Toronto area in July 2003, and was elected the Managing Partner and Chief Executive in June 2004. In addition, Alan is the representative of the Canadian firm on the DTT Executive and is one of the Canadian representatives on the DTT Board of Directors. In 2006, he was designated a “Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants,” or FCA — the highest honour awarded to Ontario Chartered Accountants.

John Bowey

David Laidley

John Bowey is the chairman of Deloitte in Canada, a role he assumed in June 2006. Born and raised in Cambridge, Ontario, John holds a BA in Economics from Colby College in Waterville, Maine, and an MBA from the Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario. Following his graduation, he joined Deloitte’s Toronto office in June 1973.

In 1976, John became a CA and transferred to Hamilton, where he began his career in tax. Four years later, John transferred to the Kitchener office. He became a partner in 1983. In 2001, John was appointed Regional Managing Partner for the firm’s Southwestern Ontario region. In 2006, he received the FCA designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants for his outstanding career achievements and leadership contributions to the community.

John has been involved with various community organizations over the past 25 years, including the Cambridge Family Crisis Shelter, the Cambridge Big Brothers Association, and the Sunbeam Centre, a home for severely disabled children and young adults. John has also worked with the Victorian Order of Nurses for the Region of Waterloo and served as a member of the Governor's Council of Opportunity International, a charitable organization that provides micro loans to help individuals in underdeveloped countries start up small businesses.

Denis Boivin
President, Samson Bélair/Deloitte & Touche

Denis BoivinDenis Boivin is the president of Samson Bélair/Deloitte & Touche and has been a member of the Board of Directors of our Canadian firm, Deloitte & Touche, since 2000. His involvement and professionalism remain dominant in audit and consulting in all economic sectors.
 
Originally from Saguenay-Lac St-Jean, Denis Boivin has occupied various key positions within the Firm. A partner at the Chicoutimi office since 1975, Denis Boivin went on to become the Managing Partner in 1986 and was then named Managing Partner of the Saguenay-Lac St-Jean region in 1991. Since then, he has been actively involved in the firm's provincial and national activities and sits on various committees, including the risk management and professional quality committee, and the strategic planning and human resources committee.

Denis Boivin has been a member of the Ordre des comptables agréés du Québec since 1973, and received a Fellowship in 1995 (FCA) for his outstanding contribution to the profession. In June 1998, the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi awarded him the institution's most prestigious award for his exceptional management qualities and his important contribution to the social, economic and cultural development of his region. Several months later, he was named an honorary lieutenant-colonel of the Saguenay Regiment. Mr. Boivin has been involved in numerous humanitarian, social and economic fundraising campaigns throughout his career. He has been the President of Samson Bélair/Deloitte & Touche since 2000.
