The History of Deloitte Netherlands

A series of mergers and acquisitions marks the history of the Dutch member firm. Some select moments in our history are described below.

  • 1955 Nederlandse Accoutants Maatschap
Historically, the Nederlandse Accountants Maatschap (NAM), incorporated in 1955, is one of the most important legal predecessors of the present Dutch member firm. In the sixties and seventies, NAM experiences strong growth, mainly due to numerous local mergers and acquisitions. This results in an extensive country-wide office network.
  • 1986 TRN Group
In 1981, the fast growing organization enters into a joint venture with Begheyn & Sneep and starts offering tax services. By that time, the firm also includes a small group of management consultants. Mid eighties the organization is renamed TRN Group, stressing the importance of the international alliance with Touche Ross.
  • 1988 Merger with the Tombe/Melse Groep
In 1988, the group merges with the Tombe Melse Groep (TMG) also a multidisciplinary service provider, with about 700 staff. At the time, the TRN Group itself employs about 2,000 people. The Tombe/Melse audit firm dates back to 1905 and has its roots in the city of Leiden.
  • 1992 Deloitte & Touche
In 1992, the group is renamed Deloitte & Touche after the worldwide merger between Touche Ross International and Deloitte Haskins & Sells, under the new name Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu International.
  • 1998 Merger with VB Groep
The largest merger in the history of the Dutch Member Firm takes place on 1 January 1998 and concerns the operations of VB Group, an audit firm concentrating on the public sector and not-for-profit market segments. At the time, VB Groep employs nearly 1,400 people. After the merger, Deloitte & Touche’s staff number increases to 4,800. Annual sales also increase up to almost NLG 780 million. Less than two years later, sales add up to over a billion. A new merger with independent advisory firm Bakkenist also contributes significantly to this sales growth.
  • 2002 Merger with Andersen The Netherlands
On 1 June 2002, Andersen The Netherlands joined the firm, making Deloitte & Touche the largest financial service provider in the Netherlands. Andersen employed about 1,200 staff at the time of the merger. In addition to its market leadership in SME and the public sector, Deloitte & Touche now also becomes one of the largest service providers in the market segment for large and multinational clients.
  • 2003 Deloitte
In the autumn of 2003, the brand name is abbreviated to, simply, Deloitte, still a ‘member of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu’. The organization currently employs about 6,000 staff and has 30 offices throughout the Netherlands.
