Ntombifuthi (Futhi) Mtoba
Chairman

CA (SA), Higher Diploma in Banking Law (RAU), B Compt (Hons) (UNISA), BA (Econ) (Hons) (UNISA), BA (Econ) (University of Botswana and Swaziland)

Futhi Mtoba holds the honour of being the first African Black woman to be appointed as a partner by one of the Big Four accounting firms in South Africa. She is also the first Black woman to be appointed to the Board at Deloitte.
 
She is one of the four vice presidents of Business Unity South Africa (BUSA); she previously led the Black Business Council Economic Research Unit and was a member of the Black Business Council Presidential Working Group. 

She is a member of the NEPAD Business Foundation; she serves on the Board of the Public Investment Corporation, SARB Standing Committee for the revision of the Bank’s Act and she is deputy chairman of the Council of the University of Pretoria.

Futhi was the first woman national president of the Association for the Advancement of Black Accountants in Southern Africa (ABASA); she is a past Board member of the Public Accountants and Auditors Board (PAAB); and she is a past Board member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).

Futhi is the 2004 winner of Businesswoman of the Year and in November 2005 she won the Organisation of Women in International Trade (OWIT) USA International Woman of the Year Award, making her the first woman from the African continent to receive this accolade.

In June 2007 Futhi was recognised by the National Association of Black Accountants USA for this international award. She has also been selected to be a business representative for Africa on the United Nations Global Compact Board.


Costa Ross Qually
Deputy Chairman

Costa has been with the firm for more than 42 years and has been a partner since 1972. He has an audit background but has been dedicated to risk management and independence consulting and monitoring activities for several years.

Costa has played a significant role in the accounting profession since the 1970’s, including regional, provincial and national bodies and the PAAB. He currently services on the Auditing and Assurance Standards Board, the Disciplinary Committee and the Audit Committee of the PAAB.
He also serves on the firm’s Board Risk Management Committee and holds the position of Reputation and Risk leader for the Southern African practice.

Grant Gelink
Chief Executive

CA (SA)

Grant Gelink was appointed chief executive of Deloitte Southern Africa on 1 June 2006.  He has served the firm for 20 years, during which time he has been the lead client service partner for the Public Sector.  Grant has also fulfilled the position of partner-in-charge of the Pretoria office and service line leader for Management Solutions, Deloitte & Touche Active Era, Human Capital Corporation and Deloitte Consulting. His global responsibilities include being a member of the Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Global Board and a member of the Global Risk Committee. Grant is also the chairman of the African Children’s Feeding Scheme.
 

Allen Swiegers
Chief Operating Officer

 Allen Swiegers was appointed COO of Deloitte Southern Africa on 1 June 2006. In addition to his responsibilities as COO, he is also responsible for Group Human Resources & Development and for The Deloitte Way and he chairs the firm’s Talent Board.  He has served the firm for 24 years, having joined as a trainee accountant in 1984.  Allen was the partner-in-charge of the Pretoria office from 2000 until 2006 and served as a Deloitte Board member for two of those years before joining Exco.

 


Christoffel (Chris) Beukman
Chief Financial Officer
CA (SA)

As the firm’s CFO, Chris Beukman is responsible for Partner/Director Affairs as well as the financial affairs of the firm. Chris is also the firm’s Board secretary.

He has served 34 years with the firm. Chris was a group leader in Johannesburg Assurance from September 1993 to December 2001. He has been responsible for the management and direction of engagements for large multinational corporations in South Africa in accounting, advisory, auditing and due diligence services with extensive experience in the utilities and construction sectors.
Chris was a member of the Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Global Resources Group and was responsible for co-ordination of the group’s activities in Africa.


Anne Bennett
BA (Hons) (UCT), LLB (cum laude) (UNISA), M.Phil (OXON), H. Dip Tax (Wits), Member of Institute of Taxation (ATII, UK)

After qualifying as a practising attorney in Cape Town, Anne joined the Deloitte & Touche Tax division in Johannesburg in 1987. She was seconded to Deloitte & Touche London as a senior manager in the International Tax division in 1991. Anne became a partner in Deloitte & Touche South Africa in 1993, and in 1994 she was appointed to lead the International Tax group within the South African practice. Anne was appointed to the Board in 2001; she was the first female appointment to the Board of Partners. Anne specialises in advising South African and foreign-based multinational corporations on the international tax implications of structuring cross-border investments and operations. Current clients include Anglo American, Sappi Limited, Rio Tinto Plc, Steinhoff Limited, Vodafone and Datatec.


Guy C Brazier

Guy has been with Deloitte for 24 years and has been a partner for 17 years. He was appointed to the Deloitte Board in June 2006 and is a member of the Finance, CEO Succession Planning and CEO/COO Remuneration sub-committees of the Board. 

Guy is currently the Regional Leader of Deloitte in KwaZulu-Natal which comprises the Durban, Pietermaritzburg and Richards Bay offices. He has responsibility to grow the region and make sure our clients are being well serviced by all our business units. 

He is also the Chief Executive Officer of Deloitte Tip-offs Anonymous, currently regarded as the undisputed leader of independent and anonymous hotlines and disclosure services in Southern Africa with over 300 subscribing clients. The client base comprises entities in the public sector as well including approximately 30% of South Africa’s Top 100 listed companies (by market capitalisation).


Daniël (Danie) Francois Crowther
B Com (Hons) CA (SA) MBA

Before originally joining Deloitte in 1988, Danie lectured in Business Economics at the University of Pretoria. After completing his training contract, he spent a year and a half at the Boston (USA) office of Deloitte as part of the firm’s Global Deployment Programme. He left the firm after his time in Boston and joined an associate rural partnership where he spent the next seven years. Danie re-joined the Pretoria office of Deloitte as an Audit partner in 1999. Danie is the country leader of the Technology, Media and Telecommunications practice, currently the client service partner on Mustek and Vodacom South Africa and served as client service partner at several other technology clients such as Datacentrix and Arivia.kom.

Danie was appointed to the Board in March 2005, serves on the Board’s Strategy and Partner Nomination committees, and on the firm’s Transformation Advisory Board. He chaired the “Quality in all its forms” workstream of the Deloitte To>>>007 strategy exercise, that developed original The Deloitte Way programme.


Sandile Xolani Gwala
B Com (Natal), H.Dip in Computer Auditing (Wits), Post Grad Dip in Business Management, MBA

Sandile has been with Deloitte since 1997. He joined from BHP Billiton where he was an SAP R/3 Specialist. Prior to this, he was at Tongaat-Hulett as a Financial Systems analyst.

At Deloitte, Sandile worked for Computer Assurance Services (now Enterprise Risk Services) and specialised on SAP clients. He subsequently joined Management Solutions (now part of Consulting) in 2000 after completing other SAP projects in London and Denmark.  He became a partner at Deloitte in 2002 and then left the Johannesburg office and was based in Pretoria.

Currently, he is the leader of Finance & Accounting Outsourcing in Consulting and the LCSP of Seta outsourcing assignments.  He has just been appointed into the external Board of CiG, which is an Outsourcing Industry Body in Gauteng.
Sandile was appointed into the Board in 2006.  He currently serves on the Transformation Advisory Board and has been in the Remuneration Committee since 2004.


Roland (Roly) Johnston Hofmeyr
Board Member - Western Cape/Eastern Cape
CA (SA)

Roly was appointed to the Board early in 2008 and has been with the firm for 33 years. He became an Audit partner in the South African firm while on secondment to the New York office in 1984. On his return to South Africa he became staff partner and specialised in serving owner managed businesses, mainly in agriculture in the Western Cape. Roly is currently the lead client service partner for clients such as Oceana Group, KAP International Holdings and many large local clients of the Cape Town office.


Michael (Mike) John Jarvis
CA (SA)

Mike has been with Deloitte for 20 years and has been a partner since 1996. He is an Audit partner and services listed clients primarily in the tourism, manufacturing and mining industries. He was appointed to the Deloitte Board in June 2003 and is a member of the Financial and Risk Management committees.

In additional to his client responsibilities, Mike is the Johannesburg Audit business unit leader.
 Prior to his current position, Mike was a group leader in the Johannesburg Audit division.

In 1999 Mike led the Deloitte Multicultural Development Programme (MCDP) for a two year period. In this role he was responsible for the strategic implementation of our firm’s transformation process, which included driving the requirements of the employment equity process. He spent two years in the Deloitte San Jose (USA) office as part of the firm’s Global Deployment Programme.


Kasurthrie Justine Kathan-Mazzocco
CA (SA) and working towards Certified Internal Auditor qualification.

Justine has been with Deloitte for more than 20 years, and has been a partner for nine years. She chairs the Board Committee for Corporate Citizenship.

Justine is the business unit leader for Internal Audit Services nationally.

Justine is also the senior vice president of the Institute of Internal Auditors in South Africa. She is also a member of the King III task committee for the Internal Audit workstream.

She serves a diverse client base in both the public and private sector. Some of her clients, both past and present, include: Johnnic Group, South African Breweries, South African National Parks, University of Johannesburg, National Treasury, Financial Services Board and Transkei Sun International Limited.


Claude Martin
Dip. Datametrics (UNISA)

Claude Martin has more than 25 years experience in business improvement and technology projects for major multi-national clients. Claude became a partner of Deloitte and Touche in 1994 and is the Clients & Markets leader in the Consulting division. He also holds the position of industry leader: Manufacturing for the firm. In this position Claude has been involved in planning and guiding many of the firm’s largest and most complex engagements. Claude is the global lead client service partner for BHP Billiton, the world’s largest resources company and a global strategic client of the firm. Claude is a member of the global firm’s manufacturing industry executive with specific responsibility for the Process sector. 

Claude has a wealth of project experience gained in South Africa, Australia, Europe and North America. Some of the major clients he has served include BHP Billiton, Iscor, Kumba Resources, Rio Tinto, De Beers, Sasol, Shell, Union Oil of California, SABMiller, Mondi and Toyota.

 

Tawanda Gumbo
CA (Z) B Compt Unisa

Tawanda Gumbo is the board representative for Botswana, Malawi, Namibia and Zimbabwe. He was elected to the board in June 2007. He is the chief executive officer for the Zimbabwe and Malawi practices. He has been with the firm for 18 years and has been a partner for 8 years. He is the current president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Zimbabwe (ICAZ) and has formerly served as the deputy chairman for the same institute’s technical committee. Tawanda is also the Zimbabwe representative on the East, Central and Southern Africa Federation of Accountants (ECSAFA) which is the regional standard setting body.


Nthobakae (Nthobi) Angel*
BA (Hons) (Ghana), Dip. Mass Communication (Ghana), BSc (Hons) Sociology (Zim), MSc Industrial Sociology (Zim)

Nthobi Angel is a non-executive director of the Deloitte Board of Partners and Directors.  In addition, she is chairman of a women’s Group, TsaRona Investments, a director of ABSA Group and ABSA Bank and a director of  Batho Bonke Capital.  Nthobi is active in nature conservation and is a director of the Open Africa Initiative and the Peace Parks Foundation. She chairs the ABSA Brand and Reputation sub-committee, is a trustee of the Absa Foundation and Kagiso Trust. 
From 1994 to 1995, Nthobi was the public affairs manager at Rhone-Poulenc Rorer SA (Proprietary) Limited.

Thereafter she was appointed as general manager: Corporate Affairs at Engen Petroleum Limited, a position she held until early 2000, when she was appointed as executive director: Strategic Affairs at Engen. She played a key role in facilitating the first BEE transaction (Worldwide Africa Investments) in the oil industry, which later informed the Department of Minerals & Energy oil industry charter. She also was instrumental in establishing the joint SO2 environmental emissions monitoring programme between the Durban South communities and the Engen Refinery.

From 2001 to 2003 Nthobi was seconded to the Presidency by Engen, as Chief Operations Officer: Strategic Planning and Communications. She was part of the three member team with Tokyo Sexwale who put together the Batho-Bonke consortium which now has 10% equity in ABSA.  From 2004 to 2005 she was appointed as CEO of Mvelaphanda Resources.
