Meet James W. Wetzler

James W. Wetzler

Jim Wetzler is a director in Deloitte Tax LLP's Multistate Tax Controversy practice. He joined our organization in 1995 and is based in the New York office. Prior to joining the company, he served as New York State Commissioner of Taxation and Finance from 1988 to 1994 and as president of the Federation of Tax Administrators in 1994.

In 1996, President Clinton appointed Jim to the National Commission on Restructuring the Internal Revenue Service. From 1973 to 1984, he served on the staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation of the U.S. Congress, including service as deputy chief of staff from 1983 to 1984.

Jim is a frequent speaker at conferences on taxation and has written widely on state and federal tax policy issues. He serves clients in a variety of industries, including utilities, media and financial services. Jim graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1969 and received a Doctorate in Economics from Harvard University in 1973.
