 Dr. Howard Underwood, an actuary and informatician, is a senior manager with Deloitte Consulting LLP and a senior fellow with the Deloitte Center for Health Solutions, where he focuses on health care policy/economics, actuarial, medical management and value-based purchasing, i.e., assessing clinical program performance to identify opportunities for improvement. Dr. Underwood came to our organization with experience at two large national health plans and a health reinsurer, where he led informatics and health economics organizations, focusing on clinical quality measurement and predictive modeling. With five patents in predictive modeling, he is a frequent speaker on risk adjustment and health economics. Dr. Underwood earned his medical degree at Temple University School of Medicine; his masters in business administration degree in finance, statistics and health administration from the University of Chicago; his masters of science degree in bioengineering and a Medical Informatics Fellowship from Duke University; and his bachelor of science degree in economics, with a major in actuarial science, from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
