Paul has over 10 years of sports business experience. He has undertaken a wide range of assignments working with governing bodies, clubs, leagues and other sports business organisations in the UK and around Europe. His advisory work has included several due diligence examinations for potential investors (in respect of clubs, player agency company and other sports businesses), preparation of expert witness reports (including cases related to sporting rules), corporate governance advice, advisory work in respect of sporting rules and integrity of the competition, advice to clubs on revenue generation and cost control, and assistance over a two year period to UEFA in respect of the development of the new financial chapter of the club licensing manual implemented across Europe. Paul has substantial experience as an audit manager in the sports business sector. His clients have included sports governing bodies (the English Football Association, the Rugby Football League and the World Professional Billiards & Snooker Association), a Premier League Club and a sports management business. Paul is a qualified Chartered Accountant and provides support to the UK Firm and other worldwide member firms of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu in relation to sporting technical accounting, financial reporting and risk management issues. Paul led the ground-breaking projects to development documents ‘Financial Reporting Guidance for Football Clubs’ for both UKGAAP, and more recently, International Financial Reporting Standards. Paul is an editor of the Deloitte Annual Review of Football Finance. He is a regular media spokesperson on sports business matters. In his spare time, and in a personal capacity, Paul led the development and implementation of the community-backed Rescue Package to save York City FC in 2003 and the subsequent refinancing of the Club approved by members in 2006.
