Our partnerships and memberships - biometrics

In order to bring the most up-to-date information on new biometric approaches, the performance of existing systems and emerging trends to you, we regard active cooperation with carefully selected research and testing authorities, standards committees and industry affiliations as most important.

Partnerships

  • National Physical Laboratory biometrics testing
In 2000, the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) produced the definitive test results for biometrics of the time. In 2005 and 2006, similar tests were conducted for a variety of innovative biometric technologies. Deloitte partnered NPL in these tests, and was the only fully vendor-independent consulting company involved. An executive summary of our findings was published in the Nov/Dec 2006 edition of Biometric Technology Today. Read on for further information on National Physical Laboratory biometrics testing
  • IBIA Working Group
International Biometric Industry Association (IBIA) is a trade association organised to advance the collective international interests of the biometric industry. IBIA is staffed by professional experts in biometrics, trade association management, and the complex disciplines of education and advocacy required by a multinational high-tech industry. IBIA work on the development of consistent and accurate industry statements on key issues in order to enhance the acceptance of biometric technologies by the IT security industry.

Memberships

  • BSI Biometric Standards Committee
After years of involvement in international standardisation work with NIST and CEN, Deloitte has been invited to join the technical biometrics committee IST/44 of the British Standards Institute (BSI) which provides UK input into ISO/IEC JTC1/SC37.
  • European Biometrics Forum
The European Biometrics Forum is composed of some of Europe’s leading privacy, technology and usability experts who are focused on establishing a realistic vision for the future of the biometric industry in Europe in the context of a fast developing international market.
  • Biometrics Focus Group
The Biometrics Focus Group was created by CEN/ISSS to support and improve understanding and information flow on biometric standards issues, with specific reference to interoperability. It is intended to encourage European contributions to and awareness of the current international work, as well as provide a forum for more detailed consideration of European requirements
