DALLAS, October 19, 2006 — Forty-six Texas-based technology companies are included in Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500, a ranking of the fastest growing technology, media, telecommunications and life sciences companies in North America based on percentage fiscal year revenue growth over five years (2001–2005) by Deloitte & Touche USA LLP.
Ninety-two percent of the Texas Fast 50 companies are included on the Fast 500. No other Fast 50 program in the United States has as high a percentage of companies on the Fast 500. Texas companies outperformed Silicon Valley, New England and Virginia—generally assumed to be leading technology centers.
“This is a significant showing for Texas technology companies,” said Skip Moore, regional managing partner for Deloitte’s Technology, Media & Telecommunications practice. “Many of these companies have been on the Texas Fast 50 listing for multiple years. Their predominance on the Fast 500 suggests a trend not only for this industry but for the Texas economy in general.
“NewMarket Technology of Dallas, the fastest-growing technology company in Texas, is ranked number five on the Fast 500,” he continued. “The last time a Texas company ranked in the top five was 2001. NewMarket has taken Texas back to the top joining nine other Texas-based companies ranked among the top 100 companies on the list.
“Texas born technology is gaining more national visibility and this is wonderful news for the Texas technology companies as we regain our position of leadership in technology, media, telecommunications and life sciences industries in the U.S.,” Moore added.
The 10 Texas-based technology companies included among the top 100 companies are NewMarket Technology, Inc. of Dallas (5), RigNet, Inc. of Houston (23), Tanox, Inc. of Houston (24), Molecular Imprints, Inc. of Austin (31), Zix Corporation of Dallas (57), 360training of Austin (62), NetQoS, Inc., of Austin (72), PreCash, Inc., of Houston (75), Webxites of Houston (77) and Convio, Inc. of Austin (86).

Qualifying Criteria
The Fast 500 ranks the fastest growing technology, media, telecommunications and life sciences companies in North America. It is compiled from Deloitte’s 16 regional North American Fast 50 programs, nominations submitted directly to the Fast 500, and public company database research.
Companies are selected based on percentage revenue growth from 2001 to 2005. To be considered, Fast 500 and Fast 50 entrants must have met the following criteria:
• Must own proprietary intellectual property or proprietary technology that contributes to a significant portion of the company's operating revenues or devotes a significant proportion of revenues to research and development of technology. Using other companies' technology or intellectual property in a unique way does not qualify.
• Base-year operating revenues must be at least $50,000 USD or $75,000 CD, and current-year operating revenues must be at least $5 million USD or CD. Companies are required to submit tax returns or audited financial statements with their submitted nomination to complete their eligibility.
• Must be in business a minimum of five years.
• Must be headquartered within North America. Subsidiaries or divisions are not eligible (unless they have some public ownership and are separately traded).
The Technology Fast 50 program is presented by Deloitte & Touche USA LLP, in association with CRESA Partners, HumCap, Merrill Lynch, NASDAQ and Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP.
