 Sustainability is today’s critical business issue, one that cannot be ignored. Environmental and social responsibility issues are not new, and a growing number of lodging companies are adopting green policies and action programs in an effort to stay competitive. However, over the past 12–18 months, momentum has been building due to mounting pressures from numerous constituents: travelers, businesses, media, regulatory officials and governments around the globe. To provide information to companies to better understand consumers’ green concerns while staying at lodging facilities, Deloitte conducted a survey of more than 1,000 business travelers in April 2008.
