NEW YORK CITY, NY Wednesday, September 19, 2007 — Satellite technology pioneer Sirius Satellite Radio tops the list of the fastest growing companies in New York as recognized by Deloitte & Touche USA LLP at an awards event held September 19 at the St. Regis Hotel in New York City. The New York Technology Fast 50 ranks technology, media, telecommunications and life sciences companies headquartered in the state by percentage revenue growth over five years.
“Sustaining such high revenue growth over five years is an exceptional accomplishment. We commend Sirius for envisioning, and then creating, an entirely new technology platform that changed forever how people think about radio,” said Ed Moran, director, Deloitte Services LP. “Sirius has overcome enormous challenges in successfully developing and integrating the hardware, software, content and personalities needed to delight their customers. We are very proud to welcome Sirius Satellite to the top of Deloitte’s 2007 New York Technology Fast 50.”
Best known for its multi-channel satellite radio broadcast capabilities for home and auto, Sirius Satellite Radio also offers a wide range of products and services including 80 channels of Internet radio, 60 channels of business radio as well as enhanced services for weather, traffic and marine broadcasting.
The 2007 New York Technology Fast 50 results reveal a number of other interesting industry trends:
-
32 companies in the Fast 50 are private (as are seven of the top 10 companies), demonstrating that New York is an excellent location for high-growth, innovative start-ups, as well as leading, more established companies
-
Strong private company revenue growth bodes well for continued strength in the near-term IPO market, as well as continued venture capital investment in New York companies
-
The Top 10 companies experienced an average revenue growth rate of 13,107 per cent over five years as compared with 6,581 per cent in 2006
-
35 companies have headquarters in New York City, continuing a long-standing trend of Fast 50 companies hailing from Manhattan
-
Nine companies have headquarters on Long Island, indicating a strong technology hub in Nassau and Suffolk counties
Technology Fast 50 companies are selected based on percentage revenue growth over the five years from 2002 to 2006. To be considered, Technology Fast 50 entrants must have operating revenues of at least $50,000 in 2002 and at least $5,000,000 in 2006; be headquartered in New York; own proprietary technology or proprietary intellectual property that contributes to a significant portion of its operating revenues, or devote a significant proportion of revenues to the research and development of technology.
