Seattle, Wash., Sept. 28, 2007 — nLight Corp. of Vancouver tops the list of the fastest growing companies in Washington State as recognized by Deloitte LLP at an award event held last night at Seattle’s Olympic Sculpture Garden. The Washington State Technology Fast 50 ranks technology, media, telecommunications and life sciences companies headquartered in Washington by revenue growth during a five year period.
The No. 1 ranked company in the 2007 Washington State Technology Fast 50 is nLight with a 9,232 percent revenue growth. Last year, nLight was the top ranked Rising Star company.
The 50 companies ranked on the Technology Fast 50 list have an average 748 percent revenue growth over five years (2002-2006), an increase of 141 percent from last year.
“Our state is blessed with innovative entrepreneurs, along with ample angel and venture capital investors to create unparalleled growth opportunities,” said Larry Hile, managing partner of Deloitte’s Technology and Life Sciences practice in Seattle. “These companies reaffirm that innovative technologies continue to emerge from our state and the technology that is developed here touches the lives of people throughout the world.”
The top five companies in the Fast 50 rankings represent a variety of products including nLight’s photonics modules for industrial, defense and medical applications; NetMotion Wireless’ mobile VPN solutions specifically designed for wireless and mobile environments; Attenex Corporation’s technologies that improve work flow in litigation and other matters; Insitu’s unmanned aerial vehicles and tools for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; Zango’s access to a large catalog of free videos, games, music, tools and utilities online.
Washington State technology companies on the list hail from 18 cities. From Everett to Vancouver; from Bellevue to Spokane Valley … the state is covered. The highest concentration of Fast 50 companies can be found in Seattle (20) and Bellevue (12).
Among the Rising Stars, a special designation in the Technology Fast 50 for fast-growth companies that have been in business a minimum of three years, but less than five, Trubion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. ranked #1 with 12,325 percent revenue growth for three years (2004–2006).
Winners are selected based on percentage revenue growth through five years from 2002 to 2006. To be considered, Technology Fast 50 entrants must: have operating revenues of at least $50,000 in 2002 and at least $5 million in 2005; be headquartered in Washington; own proprietary technology or proprietary intellectual property that contributes to a significant portion of its operating revenues, or devote a significant proportion of revenues to the research and development of technology. Using other companies' technology or intellectual property in a unique way does not qualify. Subsidiaries and divisions are not eligible, unless they have some public ownership and are separately traded.
