For Tax Year 2006, the Internal Revenue Service requirement to e-file federal tax returns applied to thousands more companies than for Tax Year 2005. To learn how companies fared in the second year of this e-file requirement, such as filing international forms in XML, Deloitte Tax LLP conducted a survey of 318 senior corporate tax executives in late 2007. Our survey findings include: - Roughly half the executives who had e-filed for the second time found the process easier.
- Three-quarters of executives found e-filing their federal tax returns more difficult than paper-filing.
- Nearly one-third of executives felt that e-filing had provided, or would eventually provide, benefits overall.
- Eighty-five percent of the respondents e-filed international forms, and nearly 75 percent of these found the process harder.
- More than a third of the respondents e-filed state tax returns and nearly two-thirds of them found e-filing easier than or about the same as paper-filing.
