CFO Research

Deloitte Tax LLP and CFO Research conducted a survey among more than 150 senior tax and finance executives to explore how they view their corporate tax function. Survey results, together with the marketplace perspective of Deloitte Tax leaders, suggest that:

  • There is an expectations gap between expanded demands on the corporate tax function and the willingness of corporations to back up those demands with the requisite resource commitments
  • There is a philosophical question of how chief financial officers (CFOs) view the tax function. Is it a strategic value driver, part of the risk management function, or merely part of the overall financial reporting function and therefore viewed as a cost center? The answer to this question will dictate the kinds of decisions CFOs make as they transform and resource their corporate tax functions in the years ahead.
