In response to the recent tsunami disaster in South and Southeast Asia, the Canadian government has announced that charitable contributions made on or before January 11, 2005 to certain registered eligible Canadian charities will qualify for a donation tax credit on a taxpayer's 2004 Canadian tax return. Donations must be made to one of a specific list of registered Canadian charities for activities relating exclusively to the tsunami disaster. In addition, the Canadian government will match such contributions dollar for dollar.
