Trading and markets: Issues from Australia’s wholesale electricity markets
Survey 2007

Over the past year, massive growth in Australia’s electricity exchange trading market combined with an increase in wholesale market prices has shifted the landscape in the Australian electricity market.

The results of the first public survey by Deloitte, the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) and d-cyphaTrade of participants throughout Australia’s national electricity market are intended to help electricity market participants to better understand key issues such as:

  • why the volumes in the Exchange Traded Market (ETM) have increased markedly over the last year
  • other market participants’ expectations for growth over the next year
  • the importance of the credit risk management characteristics of the ETM.
