Boosting Business Performance Through Organization Design
Pyramid of people

For many, organization design often is a haphazard mix of various structures and performance drivers that have evolved over time, based on politics as much as business value.

Comprehensive redesign activities often seem too complex and intimidating, yet they are one of the few levers that leaders and senior executives can directly manage that have an impact on the bottom line. To achieve a competitive advantage and increase enterprise value, organization leaders need to take a holistic approach to design activities. Effective organization design can be achieved only by striking that delicate balance between the ideal and the practical.

"Boosting Business Performance Through Organization Design" discusses a simple, clear, yet powerful approach to organization design that can be applied by managers at every level to help companies achieve the competitive advantage they want. Breaking the organization design process into steps gives companies a framework within which informed design decisions can be made. The Deloitte Global Organization Design Methodology is a four-step approach:

  1. Define strategic objectives and assess current organization
  2. Define future core capabilities and build an operating model
  3. Design organization
  4. Transition and evolve organization
