In this podcast, Ira Kalish, director of Consumer Business at Deloitte Research, discusses his speech, “The next phase of global growth: Where in the world will retailing bloom?”

Kalish is a subject matter specialist on global economic issues as well as the effects of economic, demographic and social trends in the global retailing and consumer products industries.

At the 2008 World Retail Congress in April, Kalish will address how the past five years showed the fastest global economic growth ever recorded while the world economy seems to be pausing as it transitions to a new phase of expansion. The financial turmoil of the past year is part of that transition, according to Kalish. Although there are temporary problems for some economies, the medium term outlook is good. Global consumer spending will almost surely rise rapidly over the next several years. Kalish takes on the question of where and how, as he examines the forces driving change in the global economy and how they will evolve in the next few years.
