Member firms in more than 30 countries held IMPACT Day activities in 2007. Here is a brief look at some of the community involvement events that took place in the Americas:
Bermuda
This year, Deloitte Bermuda worked with "Keep Bermuda Beautiful," collecting trash on May 4, 2007. Member firm employees also supported the Bermuda End-to-End walk by sponsoring a water stop in which about 1,000 bottles of water were distributed to the walkers on May 5 2007. Some member firm employees also participated in the walk to raise money for five local charities. Brazil
Almost 1,000 volunteers from the Deloitte Brazil offices took part in IMPACT Day activities on June 1, 2007. Employees dedicated that day to show their commitment to the development of a better society. IMPACT Day activities included blood drives, collecting winter clothes and food as well as presentations about environment and sustainability. Member firm employees were involved in activities with community associations and public schools, such as contests, workshops and presentations, providing entertainment for hundreds of children. Canada
Almost 80 percent of the Deloitte Canada member firm employees (about 5,900 individuals) were involved in IMPACT Day 2007, participating in more than 500 projects with more than 340 community organizations. Deloitte Canada partner and IMPACT Day leader, Judith Bellehumeur said, “IMPACT Day is one of the ways Deloitte Canada demonstrates that we care about the communities in which we live and work. Helping others and making an impact is important to all of us. It’s also a lot of fun and gives us the chance to work with people in a whole new way.” Colombia
Many volunteers from Deloitte Colombia's offices in Medellin met in the early morning on December 16, 2006 to paint the Maria Josefa Escobar Public School located in the nearby town of Pedregal. The day ended with an invitation to the children to see the newly painted school. On February 10, 2007, Deloitte Colombia’s Bogota office team of IMPACT Day volunteers got together with the common goal of remodeling The City of Montreal public school for the children in the District High Lucero in Bogota. Walls, desks and classrooms were painted, cleaned and repaired, and general local improvements were made. Jamaica
"Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu has a strong tradition of social responsibility, and Deloitte Jamaica shares in that commitment," said Deloitte Jamaica Managing Partner Donald Reynolds. Deloitte Jamaica adopted the Allman Town Basic School years ago and for IMPACT Day treated the students to a day of fun, games and lunch at an amusement park in Kingston. Peru
On IMPACT Day, Deloitte Peru helped a local community to build a new medical center and a house for children. Deloitte Peru also donated children's toys and improved the current village kindergarten. More than 130 member firm employees worked directly on IMPACT Day in the village "Minas 2000." Likewise, more than 200 member firm employees made donations to enable the Deloitte Peru member firm to buy construction materials. The Municipality of San Juan de Miraflores supported Deloitte Peru with construction vehicles. Everyone in “Minas 2000” participated actively in all construction activities for almost three weeks, including weekends. United States
From coast to coast, IMPACT Day shirts created a sea of blue in U.S. cities as people participated in IMPACT Day. Deloitte U.S. employees worked together on more than 500 projects throughout the United States and, through the Deloitte U.S. firms located in India, Region 10. In addition to painting, gardening and cleaning, activities included skills-based projects such as for Junior Achievement—a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching students the importance of business, economics and the free enterprise system. Deloitte U.S. employees who volunteered for Junior Achievement activities brought their business expertise to the classroom, teaching career-based curriculum to students. IMPACT Day skill-based activities provided Deloitte U.S. employees the opportunity to share their knowledge with the community.
