Online & Onboard
2008 Survey of Health Care Consumers
Online & Onboard

The Online & Onboard segment, which represents 8 percent of the population, includes high users of the system who prefer traditional approaches but who are also receptive to non-conventional approaches.

Online & Onboard consumers:

  • Lean toward relying more on themselves than their doctors in making decisions and use online tools and value-added services more than any other segment.
  • Seek information and are sensitive to quality differences.
  • Tend to be compliant with treatment decisions and satisfied with their care.
  • Tend to have one or more chronic conditions (47 percent), but do not stand out with respect to any of the key demographic characteristics:
    •  Mean age is 45 years
    • 53 percent are women
    • 92 percent are insured
    • 69 percent are Caucasian
    • 19 percent report annual household income of $100,000 or higher
