Recent high-profile security breaches involving customer data make headlines of the kind most large companies fear. Victims of personal data breaches are limited in what they, as individuals, can do. Preventing security breaches of personal information has to be a primary focus for all organizations — through a comprehensive security framework that encompasses governance, people, process; and technology. As recent events have shown, one failing in any of these areas can result in an incident. It’s no good having the governance, process and technology in place if people are not part of the security equation. It is a well known fact that people make mistakes even when they are fully aware of the policies, processes and risks—and mistakes are more prevalent if their jobs lack variety and challenge.
