Deloitte is taking a proactive stance to help solve some of the most significant problems in our local communities. Our Problem Solvers Fund provides sizeable financial grants to local initiatives where we are deeply involved by contributing our knowledge, skills, experience and leadership. Current Problem Solvers Fund investments include: Atlanta: springBoard Pilot Program
We are supporting with seed capital the development and expansion of skills-based volunteerism through Hands On Atlanta, a nonprofit citywide volunteer management center.
Chicago: Executive Functions Pilot - Chicago Public Schools
We are supporting the implementation of new “executive functions” curriculum (in which youth learn planning and time-management skills) developed by the Rush NeuroBehavioral Center, a leading hospital-based educational think tank, in Chicago’s inner city schools.
Detroit: Gleaners Community Food Bank
Based on our strategic recommendations to improve its volunteer management systems, Gleaners is implementing volunteer registration kiosks and Web-based communication.
Hartford, CT: Youth Scholars
Youth Scholars are urban Hartford students empowered by the Hartford Youth Scholars Foundation (HYSF) to attend elite college preparatory schools and colleges. We are designing HYSF’s first mentorship program and business curriculum, leading the recruitment and training of mentors from Hartford corporations and providing risk management consulting to HYSF.
Hermitage, TN: Executive Leadership Foundation Technology Transfer Project
We are leading a project to develop technology infrastructure, security strategy and implementation plans for Tennessee State and Howard Universities.
Los Angeles: Deloitte Center on Leadership and Community
Through the Center, we are presenting capacity-building curricula (e.g., staff development, business planning) to nonprofits to improve effective management in the social sector.
Philadelphia: Deloitte Education Collaborative The program is helping to reduce Philadelphia’s alarming student dropout rate by supporting the development of a diverse workforce that will address the potential shortage of talent in accounting and finance. The program is a collaboration of multiple nonprofits and includes a customized curriculum as well as mentoring and internship opportunities.
San Francisco: American Institute for Public Service – Jefferson Awards Youth Service Initiative
We are providing both seed capital and the strategic plan for the Jefferson Awards’ launch of a national program to encourage and recognize community service among high school students.
San Francisco: Positive Coaching Alliance
We are funding the expansion of the “Double-Goal Coach” approach to sports at underfunded urban high schools. This approach replaces the “win-at-all-costs” model of coaching with an ethical approach that values “honoring the game.”
Washington, DC: Roadmap to Preparedness - Connecting Nonprofits in Times of Disaster
We are providing support to the Nonprofit Roundtable and key community stakeholders to develop a strategic plan to define the nonprofit sector’s role in emergency response and recovery.
