How leading CFOs are taking charge

There is no doubt that Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) and their finance functions face an expanding and complex realm of responsibilities. Core accounting and reporting are no longer the only responsibility of the finance function. Modern day finance is also faced with managing people, systems and technology. It seems increasingly apparent that the next generation of finance talent have big shoes to fill, but how will leading CFOs take action in order to fill them?

The finance talent challenge: How leading CFOs are taking charge is a new global survey conducted in conjunction with the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) that reveals how CFOs need to use a new breed of finance talent to go beyond the traditional role of the steward and become a more strategic contributor to the business.

The survey of 636 senior finance executives unveils that only 50% of respondents believe their finance team demonstrates the skills that are needed to align finance with the business or stimulate the business to achieve its business goals. Yet few CFOs have developed a formal and deliberate strategy for identifying and nurturing finance talent. This paper explores how CFOs will need to take steps to diversify the finance organisation, and enhance the role of finance in creating value in the company.
