Media coverage of recent events in Russia has tended to focus attention on the hazards of investing in the oil and gas industry in the country, yet despite this we continue to see a high level of interest in new projects from the international oil and gas industry. The aim of this article is to explore this paradox and to explain why the enthusiasm for Russian oil and gas continues despite the bad press that the business climate of the country currently attracts.
