The Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) of 2007, signed into law by President Bush in December, has had considerable impact on sustainable real estate practices. The General Services Administration (GSA) has been tasked with the “greening” of real estate owned or leased by the federal government. One of the mandates of the Act is for the federal government to lease space only in Energy Star (the government-sanctioned badge for energy efficiency) buildings, with a few exceptions.
