 The next generation
In recent years, the UK has generated sufficient electricity to meet rising demand whilst achieving an acceptable balance between energy security, climate change concerns and affordability. Latterly however, uncertainty has increased around the achievement of energy policy objectives, culminating in HM Government’s announcement of a policy review to determine how we should meet our future energy needs.
Energy policy is likely to be one of the most complex and challenging issues of our time, with a delicate balance required between many competing interests, including commercial and economic priorities, and the potential social impact of future generations.
The importance of the energy debate should not be underestimated – future policy will directly affect the welfare and security of our country, our people and our economy. This is a time for clarity of thought and analysis. Let the debate begin – but not take too long to reach a conclusion.
